5 people killed in various firing incident in Karachi

KARACHI:  At least 5 people were killed in different areas of the city on Saturday. According to police and rescue sources, two men were killed in firing incidents that took place New Karachi sector 11 and Mira Naka area. Man killed by unidentified gunmen in Lyari. On the other hand a bullet riddled body of a youth was found near Jahanabad Graveyard. Another body was found near Shershah Akbar Road.

Five militants killed in Turbat

QUETTA: At least five militants were killed and eight arrested during a search operation by security forces in Balochistan’s Kech district on Saturday morning, a security official claimed. The official, who requested anonymity since he was not authorised to speak to the media, told Dawn.com that security forces launched a search operation in the Pidrak area of Turbat in Kech. He said there was an exchange of fire between militants and security forces. “The forces quickly responded and killed five militants during the exchange of fire,” he added. The official stated that eight suspects were also picked up from Pidrak and were being interrogated by security personnel. He said the forces also recovered arms and ammunition from the militants. The bodies were yet to be identified. However, the official claimed that the militants who were killed were involved in a series of attacks against security forces in the area.

35 dead, 13 injured in RCD Highway accident

HUB: At least 35 people were killed and 13 injured injured on Saturday when a truck collided with two buses on the RCD Highway in Balochistan’s Hub area. The accident occurred when two speeding buses collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction on the RCD Highway. According to eye witnesses, after the collision the vehicles caught fire which resulted in the deaths and injuries of several people. The truck was carrying petrol which caused the spontaneous burning of the vehicles. Also, the injured were taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. After the incident, the flow of traffic was suspended and vehicles queued up on the highway. At the time of collision, a driver of one of the buses was said to be sleeping at the back seat while the conductor was driving the bus. The driver of the bus remained safe in the accident. Sindh Government halts aid operation in Tharparkar

THARPARKAR: The Provincial Government has stopped aid operations in different areas of Tharparkar. as transporters carrying relief supplies have been on strike. Transporters said that the Sindh Government had not paid 100 million rupees  to transport relief goods to affected areas. Affected persons in Tharparkar are facing acute shortage of food items that has multiplied their problems . Not a single grain of wheat found in Government warehouses of Mithi, Islamkot, Chachro, Nagar Parkar and Deplu and other cities of Tharparkar that enforced to Sindh Government to halt wheat supply. Transporters carrying aid goods have observed strike. They said that the Sindh Government had not paid ten 100 millions for transporting aid goods to Tharparkar which leaded to 1 lac families deprived of food and aid. Victims from affected areas said that no one from Government reached them,  Government ration and wheat were distributed among their own people.

High-treason case: Prosecutor offers to quit if Musharraf appears

ISLAMABAD: Head prosecutor Akram Sheikh offered to withdraw from the high-treason case, if the legal team of former military ruler Pervez Musharraf gives an undertaking that he will appear before the special court. During Thursday’s hearing, Sheikh scoffed at media reports wherein it was mentioned that the accused is ready to appear in the Special Court, if his plea to change the government’s prosecutor is accepted. The prosecutor submitted to the three-judge special bench, headed by Justice Faisal Arab, that if the accused is solely not appearing in court because of him, then he will withdraw himself from the case. However, he wanted a guarantee from Musharraf’s attorneys that the retired military general will make an appearance and face the trial. Divorce dispute: Azam Hoti’s ex-wife attempts suicide outside IGP office

ISLAMABAD: Shamim Akhtar Kiani, the ex-wife of former federal minister Azam Khan Hoti, attempted to self-immolate in front of the Islamabad Police chief’s office on Thursday. She said she was trying to kill herself over her ex-husband’s failure to pay her dower money and to protest the police’s inaction against Hoti, who she accused of threatening her life. Policemen deployed outside the IG’s office building snatched matches and a jerry can of petrol from her to stop her from committing suicide. The Women police later moved her to the Women Police Station in G-7.   Kiani has long been engaged in a legal battle with the Awami National Party leader over nonpayment of the dower Hoti allegedly owes her. Most recently, Kiani had filed a complaint with the Kohsar police stating armed men attacked her at her house in Sector F-7/2 house and threatened her at gunpoint to withdraw the cases she had lodged against Hoti.
