Kohat: 12 killed in Peshawar Chowk blast

KOHAT: An explosion occurred near Police Line at Peshawar Chowk in Kohat, killing at least 12 people and injuring several others on Sunday, media reported.

Police Inspector General (IG) Nasir Khan Durrani told media persons said the blast took place near a pickup van at Peshawar Chowk on Kohat-Hangu Road. All the passengers in the vehicle lost their lives while several others including a woman sustained injuries.

Provincial health minister said that twelve people lost their lives in the explosion while 16 more sustained injuries.

Kohat-Hangu Road was blocked for traffic following the incident, while the bodies and injured persons were rushed to nearby hospital.

Police put the security cordon, while bomb disposal squad has also been called in.

Further details of the attack and nature of the blast were not known till the filing of this report.

Cabinet meeting: Govt’s final decision about Taliban likely today

ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet meet got underway in Islamabad today (Tuesday) to discuss key national issues, including the process of dialogue with Taliban and options of military action against them, media reported. According to sources, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar will table the five-year National Security Policy before the cabinet for approval. He would brief the cabinet about the overall law and order situation in the country as well as measures being taken to combat militancy. Sources said that important decisions regarding dialogue with Taliban and action against militants in North Waziristan are also likely to be made during today’s session.
