Taylor Swift’s latest hit single may be called ‘Everything Has Changed’ but the singer proved on Saturday that she is still the same down-to-earth girl she has always been. The 24 year-old spent the day visiting with the young patients of the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. Taylor posed for selfies with patients and even video-chatted with the kids’ friends and family.
Although Taylor did not mention the visit on any of her social media accounts, several relatives of the patients took to their Twitter accounts to thank the singer for her visit.
“Thank you @taylorswift13 for making my cousin Ashley SO happy before her difficult week ahead. She can’t stop smiling,” one person tweeted after Taylor’s visit.
“Thank you @taylorswift13 for making Rachel’s day. She deserves all the world, and you helped,” another tweeted.
Although she was only scheduled to stay at the cancer center for an hour, her visit ended up being over four hours. To visit patients with compromised immune systems, Taylor had to suit up in a facial mask and gloves.
“We are still in awe, Taylor Swift is a class act all around, she was so sweet, compassionate, asked US questions, got on Skype with my other daughter, stayed in our room and talked with us and was completely down to earth. She hung out with us for at least 15-20 minutes. She was ‘scheduled’ to be on our floor for 1 hour, but was here for 4.5 hours instead. Thank you Taylor, you are a beautiful woman inside and out!!” Jennyfer Huff, the mother of one of the little girls that received a visit from Taylor, posted on her daughter’s Facebook page.
This is not the first time Taylor involved herself in the fight against childhood cancer. In 2012, she released a single called ‘Ronan,’ which was based on a blog about a four year-old’s fight against cancer. All of the proceeds from the single are donated to a childhood cancer charity.
